rock video analysis 1: guns and roses november rain

CINEMATOGRAPHY

The cinematography used in this video gives it a sense of grandeur and scale. The video begins with a panned shot on the main performer in a dark setting. this sets the video up for an underlining theme of darkness and uncertainty. The camera than moves slowly into a panning shot of a large concert hall. already in the shot opening the long drawn out panning shots give an impression of emotional pain and uncertainty the grand scale of the surrounding space helps heighten the emotional level to portray the rock ballad image.
The camera often focuses on the main performer so the audience can see the emotion upon his face.

MIS-EN-SCENE

The mis-en-scene in this music video takes place in multiple locations such as a church a courtyard but focuses more on the location of the church. the high angles of the shots used within the video give the impression of a well polished hollywood film. The camera movements follow the emotional level of the singer. For example in the beginning of the video the camera moves very slowly giving the chance for the audience to take in the surroundings but then as the video progresses the camera picks up pace following the intensity of the lyrics and with the surroundings changing to a suitable environment to reflect this.

SOUND

The sound is a combination of live performance with some pre-recorded tracks EG the guitar solo is pre-recorded

The editing in the video is well done and flows freely with virtually no
flaws that are visible

the video.
