conventions of a music video

some conventions of music videos include:

  • camera shots
  • camera movement
  • mis-en-scene
  • editing
  • lighting
  • costume
  • colour

in the sun final

SOUND: the original song was downloaded via MP3 and was synched to the footage we had shot. this created some problems in regards to timing but overall did not hold the editing process up to much.

CINEMATOGRAPHY: camera work was varied and intresting. it comprised of a wide range of complex shots such as close-ups and birds eye view shots in order to focus viewer attention and avoid creating viewer fatigue on she and him the two main characters of the video

EDITING: editing was successful. shots and lip-syncing in the final version where in time and flowed perfectly to create the happy and cheery atmosphere in the song

MIS-EN-SCENE: alot of effort was made to get ahold of all the correct types of costumes and props. the props and costume in the orginal video all add to the american school life look that is created with the surrondings.

in the sun re-shoot role

for the re-shoot my roles where props and being involved as a dancer.

for props I had to find and be responsible for a range of items such as

  • posters
  • CD covers
  • Amplfiers
  • the schools hula hoops
and staging from the drama department

I liked this role as it provided a new and intresting challange for me to overcome. I appreciated the role by the end of filming and came to understand just how difficult it is in finding and managing so many props that where often small but critical in completeing the overall design of the set.

I found my role as a dancer intresting as I often found myself having to overcome the nervousness that i often have with performing on camera.

left is just to show a small handful of the props that I was responsible for. for example the staging and the amp where both key companants which without the re-shoot would not have gone as smoothly as it did.
to the left is another shot that demonstrated my ablity to overcome my fear of performing on camera

WWW: good progress was made during filming
there was good coperation amongst everyone
high levels of organisation

EBI: dancing could have been more throughly rehearsed to give a more polished look
more thought into prop placement and costume style
more time to be able to get shots to perfect standard

moving from year 12 media into year 13

I feel that I have devloped and progressed immensnly since entering year 13 media. I feel that my overall work albity and eithic is much better. in year 12 I was often unprepared and unorgainised which affected my overall quality of my work. I also feel i have improved in my knowledge of media the technical terms we have needed to learn and this has crossed over and helped inprove in my ablity of being able to better express my creative ideas.

my camera work has also vastly improved and the knowledge I have gained from year 12 media has helped me in thinking on a more complex level about my framing of shots, the way i use lighting and sound and how this will come across to my viwers in the end result.

This shot demonstrates the point that I made of the knowledge I have gained of effectively setting up a well framed shot

this shot I feel demonstrates the confidence that I have gained in being on camera more. something that I was not as keen to do last year.
